The Vodní svět (Water World) nature trail in the Upper Palatinate Forest Protected Landscape Area is dedicated to beavers and other protected animals. It also introduces the unique water ecosystem of the long unused water reservoirs Na Kolmu near Lesná in the Tachov district.

U tří znaků

Are you planning a short, easy trip? The most visited place in the Upper Palatinate Forest is its most prominent landmark – the Čerchov Hill with a lookout tower. If you decide to extend your trip a bit, the interesting place called U tří znaků (Three Coats of Arms) is definitely worth your attention.

The Pilgrimage Site of St. Anne near Pořejov

South of Tachov, in places where few people ever go, lie the remains of the vanished village of Pořejov. The only visible remnant of it is the pilgrimage church of St. Anne on the hill above it. And rumour has it that this pilgrimage site has magical powers.

Vanished Villages

As soon as World War II ended, more than 50 German villages and settlements in the Czech border region of Domažlice disappeared as their inhabitants were evicted. The localities that were close to the state border were systematically demolished after the border no-access zone was declared and the Iron Curtain was lowered.

Koráb Uplands

Koráb Uplands form a kind of a divide between Bohemian and Upper Palatinate Forests. Compared to the more famous mountains, it remains an almost unknown geomorphological formation, but for enthusiastic hikers looking for lesser-known routes with a touch of history, it is an ideal trip destination not only for a Saturday.
