The Ejpovice Railway Tunnel
Started in 2013, the construction of the tunnel was part of the modernisation of the western part of the IIIrd National Rail Transit Corridor. The tunnel was put into operation in November and December, 2018. The construction and opening of this tunnel shortened the railway line from Prague to Pilsen by 6.1 kilometres and reduced the transport time by up to 9 minutes, as the new railway line does not have to copy the northern curve to Chrást and along the Berounka River valley.
It has been in full operation since December 7, 2018, with the maximum speed limit set at 160 km/h as of September, 2019. It is expected that the maximum speed limit in this section will increase to 200 km/h, making the Ejpovice Tunnel the first railway section in the Czech Republic where it is possible to exceed the 160 km/h speed.
