The Vejprnice Wooden Bridge

The reason why this wooden covered footbridge was built in Vejprnice is very interesting. The footbridge does not cross any river or stream, as is usually the case, but over a four-metre-deep ditch, the function of which is still a mystery to experts. The footbridge connects the church with the grounds of the former Baroque rectory. The footbridge consists of four interlocking larch beams. Its outer width is 1.6 metres and its height from the bridge deck to the ridge of the hipped roof is 3.8 metres, making it less than 20 metres long in total. Most of the footbridge joints are secured with wooden pins. Although the entrance door to the footbridge is usually locked, the monument can be approached by a walkway in the ditch, from where you can observe other interesting details of the construction of the whole building.
