Historical Underground

Leaving daylight and going underground is exciting for everyone. In the Pilsen Region, you can discover the history of royal cities, castle and monastery cellars, mining tunnels, war fortifications, church catacombs as well as brewery cellars.

Underground World at the Pilsen ZOO

The unique exhibition was created under the Asian Garden, on the site of former military shelters of the German army. It offers a glimpse not only into deep history, but also a contemporary representation of underground spaces such as tunnels, caves, cellars, underground wells, tombs, canals and subterrain rivers.

Pilsen Historical Underground

The Brewery Museum building is the starting point for a tour of the Pilsen Historical Underground, which has been built under the city centre since the 14th century and is one of the largest in the Czech Republic with a length of 20 km.

The Klatovy Catacombs

The Klatovy Catacombs is the name given to the crypts under the Jesuit church in Klatovy. Visitors can see 30 mummified bodies in the Klatovy Catacombs and learn about the history of the town and the Jesuit order.

Švihov Water Castle

Švihov Castle was built at the end of the 15th century by the royal judge Půta Švihovský, one of the most important men of the Rýzmberk family. Since then, the castle has gone through many phases up to its present reconstructed form.
