Bohemian Forest

It is impossible not to love Bohemian Forest. After the very first hike up the wooded hills, a walk around the wild rapids of the Vydra River, a look across the glacial lakes and a view of the peaks of the Alps, one is lost forever. And for the faithful, Modrava, the mysterious moors and the true wilderness of the national park open up.

Trip along the Vydra River

Several trails have already been built in Bohemian Forest National Park to encourage wheelchair users to visit the area. The favourable character of this one also makes it attractive for families with prams.

Hauswald Chapel near Srní

The Hauswald Chapel, or rather the remains of the three original chapels, was a famous pilgrimage site in the past and is shrouded in many legends. The magical power of the place attracted so many pilgrims that the chapels were nicknamed “the Little Lourdes of Bohemian Forest”.

The Tunnel under the Špičák Pass

Nobody who has at least once taken a train from Klatovy to Železná Ruda or Špičák (perhaps to go skiing) could avoid the visit to one of the most important technical monuments of the Pilsen Region.

The Hydroelectric Power Plant Čeňkova pila

A national technical monument in the middle of the Bohemian Forest countryside? This is the popular Hydroelectric Power Plant Čeňkova pila, whose well-preserved interior is accessible during guided tours. Be sure to drop in when you drive by.

Lake Laka

Lake Laka is the smallest and shallowest of the eight lakes of glacial origin in Bohemian Forest. It is distinguished mainly by its floating islands that rise above the surface and it is also the highest-situated lake in Bohemian Forest.

Trip around Bohemian Forest Lakes

Bohemian Forest is our only real lake area. On the Czech side, you can see five of these remnants of glacial thaw from the Quaternary period, which are now a very popular tourist attraction.

Černé jezero (Black Lake)

As the name suggests, the largest lake in Bohemian Forest attracts tourists mainly because of its dark, almost black colour. This natural phenomenon is, however, only a reflection of the surrounding dense forests, which are mirrored on the water surface.

Čertovo jezero (Devil’s Lake)

Čertovo, Černé and Laka Lakes, the most famous trio of lakes in the whole region of Bohemian Forest, together form the National Nature Reserve. And why Čertovo Lake? An old legend has it that the devil himself was behind the creation of this lake.
